Reviews policy
Reviews are only useful if they are real. This page sets out exactly how reviews work on Maktib.
Who can write a review
Anyone can submit a review, but we check the email address on the submission against our order records. Reviews from an email that matches a paid order for that product are marked Verified purchase. Submissions we cannot match are reviewed manually before publishing, if at all.
Moderation
Every review is held for moderation before it appears. We decline reviews that are abusive, unlawful, contain personal information, are off-topic, or which we have reason to believe are not genuine.
We do not decline reviews for being negative, and we do not edit reviews to change their meaning. Ratings shown on product pages and in search results are calculated from all published reviews, with no weighting applied.
What we never do
- We do not write reviews ourselves or generate them artificially.
- We do not buy reviews, or trade discounts or free products for positive ones.
- We do not import or reuse reviews from suppliers or other stores.
- We do not suppress reviews to raise an average rating.
- We do not display an invented rating, order count, or shopper count. Products with no reviews are shown as having none.
Fake and incentivised reviews are unlawful in many markets, including under the FTC's rule on consumer reviews and testimonials in the United States and consumer protection law in the UK and EU. We would not publish them regardless, because they make the ratings worthless to the people they are meant to help.
Popularity indicators
Some products carry a “Popular choice” or “Best seller” badge. These reflect how many retailers stock that item with our supplier — a genuine demand signal from the supply network, clearly distinct from our own sales figures or customer ratings.
Reporting a review
If you believe a published review is fake or breaks this policy, please tell us and we will investigate.
